Why does stakeholder mapping matter?
Deals are often lost to people the seller never met: a security lead who blocks late, or a finance partner nobody briefed. Mapping makes those gaps visible early, shows where a deal depends on a single contact, and guides which content each person needs.
How does stakeholder mapping work? An example
For a platform deal, the seller maps the economic buyer (the CFO), a champion (an operations director), two evaluators, an IT security reviewer and a procurement lead. Each entry has a role, a stance (supporter, neutral or skeptic) and the last contact date. The map shows nobody has met security, so the champion arranges an introduction.
How do you measure stakeholder mapping?
- Number of mapped stakeholders per late-stage deal
- Share of mapped stakeholders engaged in the last 30 days
- Coverage of key roles: economic buyer, champion, technical, procurement
- Deals that rely on a single contact
- Win rate by stakeholder coverage
Revspire Digital Sales Rooms include visual buying-committee mapping, and engagement data in the room shows which mapped stakeholders are active.

What is the difference between a stakeholder map and an org chart?
An org chart shows reporting lines. A stakeholder map shows who influences this particular decision, how they feel about it and how they relate to each other.
Which roles should a stakeholder map include?
At minimum the economic buyer, the champion, evaluators or users, technical and security reviewers, procurement and legal, and anyone else who could block the deal.
