What is a sales call scorecard?

A sales call scorecard is a rubric that rates one sales conversation against agreed criteria, such as discovery, value messaging, objection handling and next steps, so feedback is consistent across reviewers.

Good scorecards describe each score level in observable terms, so two managers listening to the same call give the same rating. The same rubric can score live calls and practice role-plays.

Why does a sales call scorecard matter?

Without a scorecard, call reviews depend on whichever manager is listening and what they happen to notice. One praises rapport, another criticizes the pace, and the rep cannot tell what good looks like. A shared rubric fixes the criteria, makes scores comparable across teams and over time, and lets enablement spot skills that are weak across many reps rather than in one. It also keeps feedback specific: a low score on next steps points to a moment in the call, not a general impression.

How does a sales call scorecard work? An example

A team scores discovery calls on five criteria, each rated 1 to 5 with a short description of every level: agenda setting, problem discovery, impact questions, qualification and an agreed next step. For impact questions, a 5 means the rep and buyer put a cost on the problem together. Managers score two calls per rep each month, and enablement compares averages across teams to decide which criterion needs a new role-play.

How do you know a sales call scorecard is working?

  • Agreement between reviewers who score the same call (calibration)
  • Average score by criterion, by team and over time
  • Calls scored per rep per month
  • Score change on a criterion after coaching on it
  • How criterion scores relate to stage conversion, treated as correlation rather than proof

Revspire AI Sales Training & Coaching applies instant AI scoring for clarity, confidence and objection handling to every role-play, giving reps and managers a consistent score before live calls.

Sales call scorecard: frequently asked questions

What should a sales call scorecard include?

Four to seven criteria tied to your sales process, such as agenda, discovery, value messaging, objection handling and next steps, with a clear description of each score level and space for evidence: the moment in the call that justifies the rating.

What is the difference between a call scorecard and a skills assessment?

A call scorecard rates one conversation. A skills assessment builds a picture of a seller's ability across many calls, role-plays and tests, against the levels in a competency framework. Scorecards are often one input to the assessment.

How do you calibrate call scoring across managers?

Have managers score the same recorded calls independently, compare their ratings, discuss the criteria where they differ and tighten the level descriptions. Repeat regularly, because scoring drifts as new managers join and priorities change.
