This is original Revspire data: About 40 B2B companies: 22 contributed deals with a mutual action plan, 16 deals without one, closed opportunities synced from Salesforce or HubSpot, joined to mutual action plans recorded in Revspire deal rooms, October 2025 to September 2026. The figures are aggregated and anonymized, and they describe patterns in Revspire customer data rather than proving cause and effect.
Do mutual action plans shorten the sales cycle?
In this data, yes, and the gap grows with deal size. Deals with a recorded mutual action plan closed in a median of 20 days under $10k (25 without a plan), 42 days at $10k–$50k (60 without) and 85 days above $50k (120 without). That is 5, 18 and 35 days faster, or roughly 20–30% shorter at every size. Larger deals have more people and approval steps to coordinate, which is where a shared, dated plan has the most to organise.
| ACV band | Without a plan | With a plan | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under $10k | 25 days | 20 days | 5 days faster |
| $10k–$50k | 60 days | 42 days | 18 days faster |
| Above $50k | 120 days | 85 days | 35 days faster |

- Cycle length counts calendar days from opportunity creation in the CRM to the close date.
- A deal counts as having a plan when a mutual action plan was recorded in the deal room linked to the opportunity.
Do deals with a mutual action plan win more often?
Deals with a mutual action plan were won 35% of the time, against 28% for deals without one, a 25% relative difference, from 22 organizations with plans and 16 without. A plan makes the buyer's own steps visible, so a stalled security review or a missing signatory shows up weeks before the forecast call rather than during it. As with any with-and-without comparison, teams that write plans may also qualify harder, so test the effect on your own deals before building a forecast on it.

- Without a plan28%

- Win rate = closed-won ÷ (closed-won + closed-lost). Relative difference = 35 ÷ 28 − 1 = 25%.
- Organizations: 22 contributed deals with a plan and 16 deals without one; an organization can appear in both groups.
Who owns the steps in a mutual action plan?
Buyers owned 20% of plan milestones and sellers owned 80%. Most plans are written by the seller and track the seller's own steps: demos, proposals, paperwork. Yet the steps that most often slip, such as security review, legal and procurement, happen on the buyer side. A plan where the buyer owns one step in five is mostly a seller to-do list. Give each buyer-side milestone a named owner at the customer and a date, and agree them on a call rather than by email.

How to use this benchmark
- Compare your cycle length with and without a plan in the same deal-size band. The gap in this data is largest above $50k, so start there if you cannot put a plan on every deal.
- Aim for more buyer-owned milestones than the 20% seen here: security review, legal, procurement and final sign-off should each have a named owner at the customer.
- Share the plan in the deal room so the whole buying group can see it, not only the champion.
- Review plan progress in deal reviews. A milestone a week late is an earlier warning than a slipped close date.
Method and sample
- Organizations
- About 40 B2B companies: 22 contributed deals with a mutual action plan, 16 deals without one
- Records
- Closed opportunities synced from Salesforce or HubSpot, joined to mutual action plans recorded in Revspire deal rooms
- Period
- October 2025 to September 2026
The figures come from closed opportunities (October 2025 to September 2026) synced from Salesforce or HubSpot by about 40 Revspire customer organizations, joined to the mutual action plans recorded in the deal rooms linked to those opportunities.
Cycle times are medians by deal-size band (annual contract value). The win-rate comparison and milestone ownership are reported across all deal sizes.
Revspire aggregated the data before analysis. No figure identifies a customer, a deal or a person, and each comparison group is based on at least 10 organizations: 22 contributed deals with a plan and 16 deals without one.
Internal, demo, trial and test workspaces are excluded. Customer contracts allow aggregated, anonymized benchmarks.
These are observed patterns in Revspire customer data, not a random sample of all B2B companies, and they do not show that any product caused a result.
Limitations
- Teams decide which deals get a plan, so deals with and without one may differ in ways this comparison does not control for, such as deal priority or qualification.
- Only plans recorded in Revspire count; plans kept in spreadsheets or documents appear in the "without a plan" group.
- Completion rates and lateness by milestone type are not reported in this edition.
Frequently asked questions
Do mutual action plans shorten sales cycles?
In Revspire customer data, deals with a mutual action plan closed in a median of 20 days under $10k (25 without), 42 days at $10k–$50k (60 without) and 85 days above $50k (120 without).
Do mutual action plans improve win rates?
Deals with a plan were won 35% of the time against 28% without one, a 25% relative difference. It is an association across about 40 companies, not proof that the plan alone won the deal.
Who should own the steps in a mutual action plan?
Both sides. In this data buyers owned only 20% of milestones, yet security review, legal and procurement are buyer-side steps, so each should have a named owner at the customer and a date.
What should a mutual action plan include?
Dated milestones from the first evaluation step to signature and kickoff, an owner for each step on both sides, and the decision criteria agreed with the buyer. Keep it where the whole buying group can see it, such as a deal room.
