DocSend or Papermark: which should you choose?
DocSend vs Papermark compares two document-sharing and data room tools that publish prices. Choose DocSend, part of Dropbox, for cloud-storage and Salesforce integrations and a Diligence tracker. Choose Papermark, with an open-source core, for a free plan, per-plan euro prices and custom domains.
Choose DocSend if…
- Your files already live in cloud storage: DocSend's integrations page lists Dropbox, Google Drive, Box, OneDrive and Egnyte, plus Gmail, Outlook and Zapier.
- You want document visits logged in your CRM: a paid Salesforce add-on records visits and link creations as Salesforce Tasks, with visit length and percentage viewed.
- You run M&A or fundraising diligence: Advanced Data Rooms ($180 a month billed yearly, 3 users) adds a Diligence tracker, an audit log, group permissions and room analytics.
- You want signatures in the same tool: Standard, Advanced and Advanced Data Rooms include unlimited eSignature requests, and one-click NDAs that gate a document start on Advanced.
Choose Papermark if…
- You want to start free: the Free plan gives 1 user page-by-page analytics and unlimited visitors, and Pro is €24 a month billed annually.
- You want prices per plan rather than per user: Data Rooms is €99 a month billed annually (€149 monthly) with 3 team members and unlimited data rooms and visitors.
- You want your own domain: a custom domain for documents starts on Business (€59 a month billed annually), and a custom data room domain on Data Rooms.
- You want to read the code: the core is public on GitHub under AGPLv3, though Papermark says the open-source edition is for personal use and company self-hosting needs a paid licence.

What is the difference between DocSend and Papermark?
Both share documents through tracked links and run virtual data rooms, but they come from different places. DocSend sells secure sharing, page-level analytics and data rooms for deal-making and fundraising, and says it is "trusted by over 47,000 companies worldwide" (DocSend). It has been part of Dropbox since 2021: Dropbox agreed on 9 March 2021 to buy it for $165 million in cash, when DocSend had more than 17,000 customers (Dropbox), and completed the deal on 22 March 2021 (Business Wire). Dropbox now sells it as Dropbox DocSend, next to Dropbox, Replay and Dropbox Sign (Dropbox).
Papermark calls itself "the secure data room built for modern dealmakers" (Papermark), and its GitHub repository calls it "the open-source DocSend alternative". The code is public (9.3k stars and 1.4k forks when checked) under AGPLv3, except the ee/ directories, which carry a commercial licence (licence). Papermark says the open-source project is licensed for personal use, excludes data rooms and advanced security, and that team or company self-hosting needs a paid licence (Papermark Help). Its about page claims 70,000+ companies in more than 100 countries. In an April 2025 Indie Hackers article, founder Iuliia Shnai said she and her co-founder had worked on Papermark full time since January 2024. We found no funding round, acquisition or merger announced on its site as of October 2026.
They overlap on the core job. Both track views page by page, gate documents behind email verification and NDAs, add dynamic watermarks, and list fundraising, M&A and due diligence as use cases (Papermark data rooms). Both also reach into sales: DocSend lists technology sales, media sales and professional services among its solutions, and Papermark lists sales among its data room uses. Neither describes sales content management, rep training or coaching on the pages we checked, and neither lists the other as an integration.
How does DocSend pricing compare to Papermark pricing?
DocSend prices in US dollars, and its pricing page showed two different plan lists on 20 October 2026. Two plans were the same in every view we checked: Advanced is $150 a month and Advanced Data Rooms $180 a month, each with 3 users included, billed yearly (DocSend pricing). A toggle says yearly billing saves "up to 40%"; in a browser view, monthly billing showed $250 and $300 a month for the same two plans. The smaller plans varied between views: one showed Personal at $10 and Standard at $45 per user per month billed yearly, another showed no Personal plan and Standard at $30 per user per month with 1 user. The page gives no price per extra user, and Custom plans are quoted by sales.
Salesforce (on Standard, Advanced and Advanced Data Rooms) and Sub-teams and SSO (on Advanced and Advanced Data Rooms) are add-ons with no published price, and the SSO help article says SSO needs the Enterprise plan. New sign-ups get a 14-day trial of Advanced Data Rooms, capped at 500 documents, 20 team members and 50 signatures (Dropbox Help). US nonprofits with 501(c)(3) status can get 30% off any plan (Dropbox Help).
Papermark prices each plan in euros, not per user, though its pricing page also has a USD toggle (Papermark pricing). Billed annually (monthly in brackets), Free is €0, Pro €24 (€29), Business €59 (€79), Data Rooms €99 (€149), Data Rooms Plus €249 (€349), Data Rooms Premium €549 (€699) and Data Rooms Unlimited €999 (€1,499) a month; Custom / Enterprise is priced on request. Free and Pro include 1 team member, Business and Data Rooms 3, Plus 5, Premium 10 and Unlimited no limit; an extra member on Data Rooms costs €33 a month billed annually (€49 monthly). Yearly billing is paid upfront for 12 months and saves "up to 35%" (plan guide), and there is a 7-day trial of Data Rooms Plus with no credit card required. Its undated Enterprise page, checked on 20 October 2026, quotes in dollars: Enterprise Papermark from $900 a month and Enterprise Self-Hosted from $2,000 a month, each with 5 admin users. A self-hosting help article last updated on 27 September 2025 says a commercial self-hosting licence starts from $500 a month.
The currencies and billing units differ, so compare quotes rather than headline figures. For three users with data rooms, DocSend lists Advanced at $150 and Advanced Data Rooms at $180 a month billed yearly; Papermark lists Data Rooms at €99 a month billed annually, or Data Rooms Plus with 5 team members at €249. Storage differs too: DocSend gives 50 GB per user, a 2 GB upload limit and 200, 2,000 or 4,000 assets per data room depending on plan, while Papermark's Data Rooms plan includes unlimited encrypted storage with no file size limit, and Papermark says it charges no per-page or per-GB fees. We found no dated third-party price benchmark with a stated sample size for either vendor.
How do DocSend and Papermark data rooms compare?
DocSend calls its data rooms Spaces (DocSend). Advanced adds what its plan card calls "Lightweight data rooms (Spaces)", with visitor email authentication, allow and block lists, NDAs and gating agreements, folder- and file-level security and dynamic watermarking. Advanced Data Rooms adds enhanced Spaces with group permissions, an audit log, automatic file indexing, data room analytics and twice the files per room (Dropbox Help). Its Diligence tracker, announced on 13 February 2026 and only on Advanced Data Rooms, adds checklists, tasks for internal and external collaborators, deadlines, CSV templates and automated reminders. DocSend's pages differ on Standard: a help article says Spaces come with Standard, and the pricing table gives it 200 assets per room, so confirm what Standard includes.
Papermark's data room controls start on the Data Rooms plan: unlimited data rooms and visitors, a custom data room domain, data room branding and analytics, NDA agreements, dynamic watermarking, file-level permissions and groups (Papermark pricing). Data Rooms Plus adds a visitor audit log, Q&A with permissions, automatic file indexing, file requests from visitors and unlimited custom domains, and Premium adds AI redaction, SSO, full white-labelling and multiple teams. Its changelog shows signatures for NDAs, term sheets and SOWs, Q&A and due diligence request lists arriving on 22 June 2026. Its data room page lists EU, US and UAE data centre options.
For single documents, both track every page. DocSend shows page-by-page (tab-by-tab for spreadsheets) analytics, top pages, average completion and version performance, and notifies you on each view (DocSend analytics). Its links take passcodes, email verification, expiry dates and download controls, and updating a file updates every link to it (DocSend sharing). Its eSignature handles up to ten signers per document, and its one-click NDA asks for a binding signature before a document opens, even from a forwarded link. Papermark includes page-by-page analytics on Free and adds email verification, allow and block lists and screenshot protection on Business. On branding, DocSend's help article describes a subdomain on all links, a logo and an accent colour, and does not mention a fully custom domain; Papermark offers a custom domain for documents from Business and for data rooms from Data Rooms (Papermark Help).
How do DocSend and Papermark compare on AI, integrations and security?
Both connect to AI assistants through MCP. DocSend's MCP server, in beta, works with ChatGPT, Claude, Codex CLI and Microsoft Copilot; it can read documents, list and create Spaces, show visits and audit-log events and grant Space access, but cannot create links with a password or NDA. Its help article, updated on 19 October 2026, lists Standard, Advanced, Advanced Data Rooms and Enterprise as eligible. On 7 October 2026 DocSend also became a connector in Perplexity Computer. We found no other named AI feature on DocSend's product pages.
Papermark names three AI features. Papermark for agents, launched on 25 June 2026, is an MCP server plus a REST API and CLI, for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Continue (its product page lists 57 tools; the changelog says about 70); agents can create rooms, upload files, create NDA-gated links, pull analytics and export the audit log, and MCP, API and CLI access start on Business. AI Redaction, added on 7 August 2026 for Data Rooms Premium and Unlimited, finds seven types of personal data and redacts nothing until a reviewer accepts it. The AI Data Room Copilot lets users chat with documents; its page does not say which plans include it.
Their integrations lean different ways. DocSend's integrations page lists 11, including Dropbox, Google Drive, Box, OneDrive, Egnyte, Gmail, Outlook, Zapier and Salesforce; HubSpot is not listed. Its Salesforce add-on logs visits and link creations as Salesforce Tasks (Dropbox Help). Papermark's help centre covers Slack alerts, webhooks, the REST API, CLI, MCP server and Notion sharing, and lists no articles for Salesforce, HubSpot, Google Drive, Dropbox or Zapier; its Workflows guides show Papermark webhooks connected to CRMs such as HubSpot and Salesforce through Zapier or Make.
On security, Papermark states SOC 2 Type II and ISO/IEC 27001 certification without naming the auditor or dates, shows a HIPAA badge, hosts on AWS in Frankfurt by default with a US option, encrypts documents at rest with AES-256 and lists a 99.9% uptime SLA (Papermark security). DocSend's Trust Center says it complies with standards "like SOC 2" with annual independent audits and shows SOC, CCPA, GDPR and PCI DSS logos, without stating a SOC 2 type or ISO 27001; compliance documents are available on request. DocSend SSO supports Okta, OneLogin and Entra ID as a sales-quoted add-on, while Papermark puts SSO on Data Rooms Premium. Ask both for their current reports.
